Wilson Gleeson, 85, of Columbus, NM, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at his home.

He war born December 4, 1920 in Philadelphia, NY, to Florence Render and John Matthew Gleeson of Antwerp, NY, where he grew up and graduated from Antwerp High School in 1938. During World War II, Wilson served his country as a United States Marine in the Pacific theater. Wilson met and married a fellow Marine, Ruth Marie Langton, on December 27, 1943 in Cherry Point, NC, where they were both stationed.

Mr. Gleeson was a Columbus resident for 18 years, having moved there from Lockport, NY. Prior to settling in Columbus he spent 10 years traveling the country full-time in his converted bus fulfilling his dream of seeing the United States. He was a die-setter at Harrison's Radiator, a division of General Motors, in Lockport, NY. He attended the Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #1916 in Columbus, NM, and the Family Motor Coach Association.

Mr. Gleeson was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Ruth Marie Gleeson and his son Mark Langton Gleeson.

Survivors include his 3 sons: Michael Wilson Gleeson and his wife Elizabeth of Deming, WA; Paul D. Gleeson of Columbus, NM; Wilson Patrick Gleeson of Goleta, CA; and a sister, Hannah Elizabeth Gleeson and a brother, Martin James Gleeson, both of Antwerp, NY; 5 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Wednesday afternoon, August 2, 2006 at 2 o'clock at the Columbus American Legion Post. Inurnment will be at the Columbus Cemetery at the American Legion section.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
