∼DEATH SUMMONS HANDCART PIONEER
MOUNT PLEASANT, UT - Mrs. Emily Coats AVERETT, one of the last of the handcart pioneers of 1847, died at her home here Sunday evening from general debility
Mrs. AVERETT, the daughter of William S. and Elizabeth SEELEY [sic], was born in Nashville, Iowa, November 17, 1845, and came to Salt Lake with her parents in President John Taylor's company, the second handcart company to enter the valley that year.
She was married to George COATS [sic] at Mount Pleasant, November 01, 1861. After his death she married Charles W. AVERETT, April 09, 1889. She is survived by her husband and one son, Asa COATS [sic] of Mount Pleasant; a daughter, Mrs. Lily C. LAKE of Castle Dale; seventeen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Moroni SEELEY [sic] of Sterling, Canada; Joseph N. SEELEY [sic] of Mount Pleasant, Mrs. Lucinda JEFFS of Castle Dale and Mrs. Emeline BARTON of Mount Pleasant.
