I know it's a no-no to post obituaries as photos, but there's no contact information and so I can't send the transcript to the owner.
Here is the text of the OBITUARY - from The Manti Messenger, Friday 28 September 1894:
Intense excitement prevailed in this city [Manti] on Wednesday afternoon when a telegram from Spring City announced that James Burns had been shot and killed. His assailants were Moen Kofford and a partner known as Peter Mickle. The shooting took place in Spring City canyon about noon. Wednesday. Conflicting reports have been received in this city but it seems that it was a willful, malicious murder.
According to our story the Sheriff accompanied by two men went to a sheep corral to secure some sheep for which he had a writ of replevin. The men refused to deliver the sheep. A short parley of words resulted in the shooting of Burns. It is said that he was riddled with bullets having been shot several times. The murderers took everything including guns and horses, and escaped for their headquarters in the San Rafael country.
A posse of nine men headed by J. T. Henrie, city marshal, left this city Wednesday night for the purpose of trying to head of the assisins in Castle Valley. If not caught before they reach the San Rafael bluffs, there will be but little use of following them. They will probably cross the Colorado and escape into the Blue Mountains where a search for them would be useless.
Burns' body will be buried in Mr. Pleasant. He leaves a respected family residing in this city, who have the sympathy of all people. The funeral will take place under the auspices of the Ancient Order United Workmen and the Independent Order Odd Fellows of which lodges he was an honorable member.
