Oren A. Preston, 79, died shortly after midnight last night at his home, 607 W. Dominick street. He had been in failing health for the past ten years and was critically ill for the past five weeks. His demise was caused by complications.

Mr. Preston was born in Lee Valley, son of the late Abigail Johnson and Zerah Preston. He was married twice in Lee Valley, the first marriage taking place in 1879 to Louise Wheeler and the second in August 1889 to Mary Lindridge, who survives.

In his earlier days Mr. Preston's occupation was farming. Fifty years ago he moved to this city and engaged in mason work. Ten years later the firm of McDaniels and Preston, contractors, was organized and did business for 20 years when it was dissolved and the business was taken over by Mr. Preston, which he continued until 10 years ago, when he was compelled to retire on account of failing health.

Mr. Preston was a Presbyterian. He was one of the first members of the Rome Lodge of Odd Fellows.

His survivors besides his wife are a brother, Clark W.Preston of Lee Valley, and two sons, S. Thomas Preston of this city and Harrison O. Preston, Port Arthur, Texas.
