Clark W. Preston, 83, well known Lee Valley resident and for 16 consecutive years Justice of the Peace, died Saturday afternoon at his home from pneumonia which he contracted a week ago.

He was the son of the late Zerah and Abigail Johnson Preston who settled in Lee Valley in 1822 on the farm where he died. Mr. Preston's parents were natives of Connecticut, coming to this section by ox team. The father and son had occupied the farm for a total of 112 years.

Mr. Preston married Alice J. Foster at North Bay July 28, 1877. For 19 years he served as treasurer, salesman and sexton of the Lee Valley Cemetery and for 44 years a member of the Lee Valley Grange in which he served numerous terms as overseer. He was a former member of the Oneida County Board of Equalizers.

He was a staunch Republican in politics and attended the Lee Valley M. E. Church. His death removes the oldest resident of Lee, having been born on August 4, 1850.

Surviving besides his widow are these children: Howard G. Preston of Antioch, California, Charles E. Preston of Oswego, Stuart W. Preston of Lee Valley, and Florence E. Preston, Clarence C. Preston and Elmer R. Preston, all of Rome.
