By 1858 the Mockenhaupt's had moved to the Nebraska Territory where they had settled in Plattsmouth. Elizabeth first appears on the 1860 US Census for Plattsmouth, Cass, Nebraska Territory, where she is noted as being three years old at the time of the census.
Siblings include: Susanna (b.1861), Christian (b.1863), Anna (b.1868), John P. (b.1872), and Michael Henry (b.1877).
After her marriage to Joseph, the Kelly's moved next door to Elizabeth's father, Christian Mockenhaupt, so that she could help care for her younger siblings as her mother had passed away at an early age in 1877.
The union of Elizabeth and Joseph produced six children: Anna, Mary, Patrick, Edward, Theresa, and Edythe Kelly.
