Susan (Heinz) Mockenhaupt
Brother:
Augustinus Heinz
(NOTE: The headstone has their name misspelled as "Mockinhaupt". Their name was never spelled with an "i" it has always been Mockenhaupt with an "e".)
Barbara Heinz was born to Joannes Wilhelmus and Elisabethae (Orth) Heinz in Landscheid, Rheinland, Prussia, on March 4, 1837.
Barbara's siblings included Augustinus, Catharina, Wilhelmus, Heinricus, and Susan.
On October 4, 1856, she married Christian Mockenhaupt in Port Washington, Wisconsin. Christian had immigrated from Fischbach, Prussia in 1852, on-board the Heinrich Von Gagern.
Between 1856 and 1858, Barbara and Christian moved along with Christian's brother, John, his wife Susan, and their child Christian, to the Nebraska Territory settling in Plattsmouth.
In 1859, the Mockenhaupt's helped plan and build the first Christian Church in Plattsmouth; St. John's Catholic Church. Christian and Barbara donated all of the bricks for the construction of the new church building.
Barbara and Christian were the parents of Elizabeth, Susanna, Christian Jr., Anna, John P., and Michael Henry Mockenhaupt.
Barbara passed away on Saturday, October 27, 1877, of what the doctors termed at the time to be "disease of the heart."
Barbara and Christian, along with John and Susan Mockenhaupt, can be credited for establishing the Mockenhaupt family lineage in Nebraska.
Barbara and Christian's headstone incorrectly has their surname listed as "Mockinhaupt". Both of their birth dates are also notably mistaken, however, this was very common for the time period.
