Mary Alice Kundred, 87, Hays, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Hays Medical Center. She was born July 17, 1925, in Catharine to Jacob and Angela (Karlin) Staab.

She was a graduate of Hays High School. She was a homemaker and a cook at Wilson Elementary School for 14 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, and Veteran of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

She married John E. Kundred in 1943.

Survivors include her husband, Hays; a daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie" Havel, Denver; a sister, Cecilia Staab, Hays; five grandchildren, Curt Kundred and wife, Julia, Danville, Calif., Jenny Leichner and husband, Dave, and Eric Kundred and wife, Shahna, all of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; David Havel and wife, Julie, Golden, Colo., and Kristi Garcia and husband, Nick, Littleton, Colo.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Kundred Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Lynna Kundred; five brothers, Herbert, Raymond, James, Leo and Frank Staab; and four sisters, Alexius Staab, Clara Staab -Rohr, Angela Koerner and Louise Koerner.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, both at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601. A rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a vigil at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Mary Alice Kundred Memorial Fund or Masses in care of the funeral home.
