James W. "Jake" Staab, 85, 1864 Emmeram Road, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at home.

He was born July 16, 1916, in Catherine to Jacob F. and Angela (Karlin) Staab.

He attended school in Catherine and was a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II. He was a retired section hand for Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, Catherine.

Survivors include brother, Herbert, Catherine; three sisters, Cecilia Staab, Catherine, and Louise Koerner and Mary Alice Kundred, both of Hays.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Catherine, with Father Earl Befort officiating; burial in St. Catherine Cemetery with graveside military
honors by the Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine. Memorials are suggested to the church or for Masses.
