Aldert was born in 1860 in the country village Thesinge, municipality Ten Boer, in the northern central part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen. His parents are day-laborers Tonnis Bolhuis (26 y) and Anje Mulder, in 1893 both still day-laborers.

Aldert Bolhuis, 25 years aged and day-laborer, married on 28 November 1885 in Ten Boer to the servant maid Klaaske Scholtens, 22 years aged and born in Eenrum, municipality 't Zandt, daughter of shoemaker Jan Scholtens and Willemina de Boer.
Their daughter Anje died in Thesinge on 21 September 1887, five months aged, Klaaske Scholtens died there on 23 June 1887 at the age of 23 years and son Jan Bolhuis died on 3 July 1887 in mun. Ten Boer, seven weeks aged.

Aldert Bolhuis, 32 years aged and widower of Klaaske Scholtens, remarried on 13 May 1893 in Ten Boer, province Groningen to the also 32 years aged servant maid Mina van der Woude, born in Thesinge too, daughter of day-laborers Klaas van der Woude and Geessien de Vries.

Day-laborers Aldert and Mina had the following children in Thesinge:
- Geessiena, born on 1 April 1894;
- Tonnis, born on 18 May 1896;
- Anko, born on 29 March 1902.

His wife Mina van der Woude died on 16 June 1911 in Thesinge at the age of 50 years.

Aldert emigrated like his daughter Geessiena and son Anko in 1928 to the USA. Widower Aldert Bolhuis (69 y) lived in 1930 with his son Anko (28 y) in Manhattan, Galattin County, in the southwestern part of Montana. In 1935 they resided in Manhattan too. In April 1940 Aldert (79 y, without occupation) and his son Anko (38 y, grain farmer) lived at a rented farm in the Dutch settlement Holland, Virginia City Road, Gallatin County, Montana.

Aldert died in January 1949 in Manhattan, Gallatin County, at the age of 88 years and since 1911 widower.
