He is born as Tonnis Bolhuis in 1896 in the country village Thesinge, municipality Ten Boer, in the northern central part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen. He is the second of three children and the first of two sons, named for his grandfather Tonnis Bolhuis. His parents are day-laborers Aldert Bolhuis and Mina van der Woude.

His mother Mina van der Woude died on 16 June 1911 in Thesinge at the age of 50 years.

Farmhand Tonnis Bolhuis (18 y) arrved on 16 June 1914 on the SS Ryndam at the port of New York, Ellis Island. His last residence place in the Netherlands was Thesinge and his final destination is Manhattan in the southwestern part of Montana, where his uncle Johannes van der Woude lives.

Teunis Bolhuis married on 2 May 1919 in Bozeman, the seat of Gallatin County, in the southwestern part of Montana at the age of 22 years to the four years younger Gertrude Sinnema born in Sexbierum, Holland, daughter of Norman Sinnema and Ida Vander Berg.

Teunes (23 y) and his wife Gertrude (19 y) Bolhuis lived in 1920 with their 11 months aged daughter Minnie in Gallatin County, Montana. In 1940 Teunis (43) and Gertrude (39) lived with their children Minnie (20 y), Norman (18y), Albert (15 y), Edith (11 y) and Cena (6 y) in the Dutch settlement Holland, later on called Amsterdam-Churchill, Gallatin County, Montana.

Teunis died n 1968 at the ge of 70 years. His widow Gertrude died in 1977 at the age of 72 years.
