ANDERSON
Effie Anderson, daughter of Jacob and Sarah Thompson Gilbert, was born in Adams County, Ia., on October 13, 1882, and died April 18, 1973, at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital at the age of 95 years, six months and five days.
At the age of three, she and her family traveled west by covered wagon and explored for a place to establish a permanent home. While in Kansas they lived in a sod house and she started her education in a sod schoolhouse.
Having experienced a drought in Kansas, they moved to Colorado but did not stay, and chose to return to Lucas County in 1889. She resided here until the time of her marriage to John O. Anderson on April 30, 1920. To this union three children were born.
In 1925, the family moved to the Humeston area, where John and Effie lived until 1973, when they moved to the Chariton Manor.
She was preceded in death by her husband John; an infant son; three sisters and one brother.
She is survived by her son, Everett and wife, Roberta; her daughter, Dorothy and husband, Ralph Boyce, all of Humeston; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also one sister, Maisey Crandall of Chariton.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Fielding Funeral Home, with Pastor Joseph Lloyd of Humeston officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
