Russell A. Cheek, age 85, of Centerville, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at his home, where he had been surrounded by his family and friends. Born October 2, 1926, in Union County, Ind., to Lester and Rachel Elam Cheek, he lived in Centerville most of his life. Russell was a World War II Navy veteran. In the Navy, he served in the "Splinter Fleet," which was a fleet of wooden submarine chasers. He worked as a machinist for Gear Works. Russell was a member of Jacksonburg Christian Church. He enjoyed gardening and camping, and he loved to travel. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Willadean Crye Cheek; daughters, Sherry (Mark) Norwood of Randallstown, Md., and Julie (Glenn) Wilson of Carlisle, Ohio; grandchildren, Megan and Ross Jacobs; sisters, Wilma Waltz, Alma (Dennis) Kanago, and Mary Alice Stewart, all of Cambridge City; brother, Wilbur (Diane) Cheek of Toledo, Ohio; sister-in-law, Janet Cheek; nieces; nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Eugene and Louis Cheek. Visitation for Russell A. Cheek will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2012, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main St., Centerville. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Eastman officiating. Burial will be in Jacksonburg Cemetery with military honors by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
