CAMBRIDGE CITY — Rachel Cheek Rauthe, 85, 231 Simmons St., died Tuesday, March 8, at her home.

She was born Feb. 15, 1909, in Knox County, Ky., to Nathan and Alice Clouse Elam and had lived in the Jacksonburg and Greens Fork areas before moving to Cambridge City in 1946. She was a retired employee of Dana Perfect Circle in Hagerstown and a member of the Cambridge City Christian Church, the Neighborly Club and the WCTU. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Lester Cheek, in 1959 and John Rauthe, in 1979.

Survivors include three daughters, Wilma Waltz of Mooreland, Alma Bowman of Dublin and Mary Alice Stewart of Cambridge City; four sons, Russell Cheek of Centerville, Eugene Cheek of Richmond, Wilbur Cheek of Florida and Louis Cheek of Illinois; two stepdaughters, Maxine Rusk of Indianapolis and Joyce Akers of Rushville; one stepson, John Rauthe Jr. of Cambridge City; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma Measle of Lexington, Ky.; four brothers, Alvin Elam of Texas, John Elam of Lebanon, Ohio, Troy Elam of Monroe, Ohio and Frank Elam of Carlisle, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 11, at the Waskom-Howard-Fisher Capitol Hill Chapel, with the Rev. Randall Massie officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cambridge City Christian Church.
