Moved to Iowa with her parents in the mid 1850s. Married George Whitfield Ames on 17 May 1862 in Iowa City, Iowa. They moved to Union County, Oregon. After her husband's death, she moved to Oakland and lived with her sister Esther Metcalf. She had no children. She was very active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
