Prosper Bowe was a member of Co. D of the Western Sharp Shooters, 66th Illinois Volunteers during the Civil War.
This company was raised in southwestern Michigan where he and his two brothers lived when they enlisted in late 1861.

Prosper fought at the battles of Mt. Zion, Mo., Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Corinth, and in the Atlanta Campaign. He was promoted Corporal and was discharged with his regiment July 1865.

After the war Prosper O. Bowe lived in Watervliet, Michigan where he attended many reunions of the boys from Company D.
