Dan Hightower, June 4, 1919- November 24, 2004 COLUMBUS, GA— Dan Hightower, 85, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Nov. 24 at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with the Rev. Richard D. Collins, Howard Bartlett and Bob Wisor officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Hightower was born in Phenix City, Ala., on June 4, 1919, son of the late Homer L. Hightower and Mittie Voncille Johnson Hightower. He has lived in Columbus all his life and was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God. He was a member of the Friendship Bible Class and an active member of the MAPS team at Evangel Temple. He was a member of the Moose Lodge International. Mr. Hightower was a retired electrician and a member of I.B.E.W. Local #779 for the past 65 years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Lois W. Hightower, of Columbus; a brother, Homer L. Hightower of Phenix City; a brother-in-law, Hubert Williams of Waycross, Ga.; and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Jones of Waycross, and Marie Bianco of Fayetteville, Ga. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the MAPS Team at Evangel Temple Assembly of God, 5350 Beallwood Connector, Columbus, 31904 or to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Rd., Columbus, 31909.
