AMHERST — Helen Ethel Solack (nee: Szabo), 88 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Golden Acres in Amherst.

She was born Ilona Etelka (Helen) Szabó April 12, 1921 in Lorain where she was raised and graduated from Lorain High School. Elyria was her home for many years before moving to Amherst in 2005.

Helen was employed with Moen Corp. in Elyria for twenty-one years, retiring in 1973 as an inspector. She formerly attended the Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ in Lorain where she was active with the Busy Martha's Guild. She also was a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Lorain where she was active as a Sunday School teacher, librarian, choir member, and a supporter of church life. She has been a member of Faith Baptist Church in Amherst since 1972. She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, traveling often to watch the team.

Survivors include her son Edward L. Solack of Amherst; her grandsons Matthew Figula and Nathan Figula; and nephews Richard Szabo and his wife Susan of Newhall, California and James Robert Szabo of Phoenix, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her son William D. Figula in 1999; by her former husband Edward A. Solack; by her parents James and Ilona Szabo (nee: Fintor); by her brothers Zoltan (Sid), William, and Anthony Szabo; and by her sister Lillian Misita.

Friends may call Wednesday, July 29, 2009 from 10 a.m. to the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Baptist Church; 440 North Lake St., Amherst. The Rev. Michael Plog, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
