Zsigmond (James) Szabó, son of Zsigmond Szabó (1847-1913)and Erzsébet Tarbai (1864-1951), was born in Dányád,a small village in present day Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county,in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary. He came to America with his half-brother Pál Szabó on Feb 11, 1906 to join his "brother-in-law" Laszlo Balogh in Springdale, PA. Pál subsequently returned to Hungary, but Zsigmond remained in Springdale to earn the passage of his sisters Emilia (Emma) Szabó (1910) and Berta (Bertha) Szabó (1911) and his brother Károly (Charles) Szabó (1913).

On July 23, 1912 he married Ilona Anna (Helen) Fintor in Allegheny County, PA.

In 1914 he and his wife moved to East Chicago, IN, along with his brother, Károly, where his first two sons were born; Zoltan "Sid" (1914-1980) and Bela "Bill" (1916-2000). He subsequently moved to Cleveland where his third son was born; Antal "Tony" (1919-2000). The family finally settled in Lorain, OH around 1920-1. His daughters, Ilona "Helen" Szabó-Solack (1921-2009) and Lillian "Lilly" Szabó-Misita (1925-2005) were born in Lorain. He was employed as a Steel Worker in National Tube Co, Lorain.

James died on Aug 12, 1955 while visiting his son, Tony, in Green Cove Springs, Clay County, FL. He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.
