John S. Berlien, son of Jacob and Isabelle Rinehart Berlien, passed away at the Underwood Nursing home at Pleasant Lake, Indiana on July 25, 1956, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 28 days.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Wilsey October 5, 1897, and to this marriage six daughters were born; Mrs. Grace Ireland, of Lynn, Mass., Mrs. Martha Rakestraw, Mrs. Thelma Landis of Pleasant Lake, Mrs. Isabel Libey of Hudson, Mrs. Zora Randolph, of Fairfield, Conn., and Mrs. Vada Seeman of Angola. Surviving besides the six daughters are 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two sisters, the Misses Ida and Susan Berlien of Toledo, Ohio, and one brother, Jay Berlien of Fort Wayne, and several nephews and nieces.

Mr. Berlien was a veteran of Company H, 157th Regiment of Indiana Volunteer Infantry, in service in the Spanish-American War in 1898.

Funeral services were held in the Weicht Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Robert James officiating. Burial services were in the South Scott cemetery, with military honors by Angola Post of the American Legion.
