J.B. (Jake) Yancey, 88, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Hill Country Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Gonzales.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 11, at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery with Grosse Mohler officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.
Yancey was born April 9, 1919, on Concho County, the son of Jesse Byrd and Mildred Fisher Yancey. He married Ilene Hill on July 5, 1948, in Ballinger and she survives.
After attending school in Ballinger and Paint Rock, Yancey went to work for the CCC program in Washington and Oregon during World War II.
Afterwards, he moved to Texas City and worked for Pan American Oil Company which later became Amoco. He retired from Amoco in 1980.
At that time, the Yanceys moved to Fredericksburg before moving to Gonzales a year ago.
In addition to his parents, Yancey was preceded in death by seven siblings, including Earl Yancey, Verda Mae Thompson, Lucille Ohls, Doyle Yancey, Jack Yancey, George Yancey and Benny Katherine Yancey.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the charity of choice.
