One of many reasons I like helping to update a lot of what is on Find-A-Grave' Web Site, especially Lake and Porter County Indiana, with the Northwest Indiana Geneolgy Cemetery Refererence books, is to help with potential errors on Find-A-Grave that wind up as Suggestions on Ancestory and other Geneology Sites.

Plus, those who have died, no longer can correct wrong information about them.

And, since I deal with Depression (Suicidal tendencies, thoughts, ideation, passive, and active) since I was about 4-years-old, almost 45-years of Depression, and realizing that one day, I will be among the dead, I figure if I do my part now, maybe someone will look after my information when I am in the ground of a Cemetery.

My personal Lord and Saviour (and I hope yours), Jesus Christ, help to keep me from following through with Suicidal Attempts.

In the mid-1990's a Geneology group, Northwest Indiana Geneology Society (TWIGS) published many volumes of books, listing those in the known, and historical Cemeteries for Lake and Porter County.

PLEASE!! Remember this is not a game of numbers, to me which I see it is, too many. If you maintain the memorial, try to connect their relatives if all possible, while the information is still fresh and available. This is not meant to be offensive for Gravers who try to memorialize and record entire Cementeries.

You are more than welcome to use any photos that I have posted. I do NOT need credit for it either, but if you do. I THANK YOU. I feel this site was created to help each other find and locate the final resting place of our ancestors.

My love of research and genealogy since 1981, and my dedication to the cemeteries that I have been visiting for people to find where their loved ones are buried, is truly enjoying. I enjoy the peace in these old cemeteries. I love finding and taking pictures of the old headstones and wonder what history they must contain.

If you come across one of your loved ones which I have added, and there is an error, please feel free to let me know. I will be happy to transfer memorials over of your immediate family members, unless it is a family relative.

Please note & take into consideration that I am not related to a lot of whom I have added. I add them to Find A Grave so family members can also find where their ancestors have been put to rest.

The proper way to correct a memorial is to use the Edit Tab....NOT to create a new memorial and send a message to the original creator to delete their memorial. Hard work is put into every memorial and yes, we are human and we do make mistakes.

Please take the time to read Find A Grave FAQs. From the FAQs: "Any non-direct relatives (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) are not required to be transferred."
Also, Find A Grave, not us, have set the Guidelines. We did not set the Guidelines, but we do abide by them.

Transfer Guidelines: Sibling's, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are within the Find A Grave Guidelines.

If you do not receive a response to a transfer request, it's most likely because the request is not within the Guidelines or because you failed to state how you are related. Stating that you are related does not tell how you are related.

When asking about a certain PERSON's memorial, please include the persons ID #, name and dates of birth, death or the STATE where buried at. This will help me find the person who you are talking about. Remember there are thousands of people with the same name.

A new Find A Grave rule states that a memorial in the correct disposition precedes any memorial of the same person that isn't, regardless of when it was made, and that a memorial with the incorrect disposition might be merged with the correct memorial or removed.
Please be sure to fully research where a person is buried instead of guessing or adding unknown burials as matter of fact, or simply do not add that person until more information can be gathered. This has been problematic for years and leads to duplicates of the same person.

Last NAME ( per Find a Grave) as you would find it on the TOMBSTONE, if the interred had more than one marriage or other possible spellings, place this information in the BIOGRAPHY and use the family links.
As in names with a space, or not, it should be as on the stone not what others prefer. Spellings on memorials that are different than on stone should be changed to reflect the spelling on the stone once the photograph is added to verify the spelling,

Use of RANK is reserved for those who retire or die while enlisted. Officers and enlisted personnel who resign their RANK are prohibited from using them as a part of their name after their service.( The Official Guide to Names, Titles, & Forms of Address )

Since the move to Ancestry and the new website, newspaper obituaries, death certificates and other scanned documentation is allowed. We encourage members to move the images down to the bottom of the photo display so that they are not the first thing you see when viewing a memorial page.
