Zachariah was born June 17, 1848 (according to the date on his marker, however some obits give birth year as 1847, his death certificate has it as 1849. If he was 79 when he passed as several obits state, then 1848 is correct) He died March 31, 1927.
He was a contractor-builder of Coke Ovens. He built many ovens for Henry Clay Frick, known as the Henry Clay Plant, and for many other companies in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

They resided in Westmoreland County until 1904 when they moved to Westerville, Ohio so their daughters could attend Otterbein College, however in his mother Lydia's obit it states he was living in W Va in 1907. The family moved back to Pennsylvania later. Zachariah seemed to not live with the family much, traveling most of the time for his work constructing coke ovens.

His wife Emma's obit notes she had been living with her son Mel for 23 years. One of Zachariah's obits noted he lived with same son for a year after retirement before moving back to live with his sister Ellen Gongaware with whom he had lived since retirement. He and wife Emma are buried in separate cemeteries.
