A.W. Patterson served as a Captain in the 4th Alabama Cavalry Regt. under the command of Col. Moreland (Also known as Moreland's Regt). He was born in McMinn Co, TN. He later moved to Franklin Co, AL, and married Susan Elen George. He enlisted in the CSA in Franklin Co, AL, was captured during the Battle of Iuka, MS, and held as a POW for six months. After the war, he walked home. He later moved to Shannon, MS and served as the Treasurer of Lee Co, MS.
