When Gabe was 22 years of age, he with his family moved to Lake Preston. At this time he was employed by the Lake Preston Milling Company for a number of years. Resigning from there he was employed the Ostroot Elevator Company. From this on he was very active the Bank of Lake Preston, the Groton Bank, a general merchandise store at Lake Preston, and served as cashier of the Community State Bank. He started his own insurance business about 1933. He was entering his fourth term as County Commissioner at the time of his death.
Gabe was married to Ida Larson at Lake Preston on Jun 10, 1913. To this union was born four children, Geraldine, Royal, Warren, and Norman. Royal preceded him in death at the age of 2 years.
During Gabe's life he was very active in civic affairs, having served as major, Secretary of the Commercial Club, and at the time of his death was City Treasurer.
Gabe was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Geraldine, Pierre, SD and Mrs. R.J. Jerde, Brownton, M; a son Warren, Duncan, OK; two brothers Theodore, Minot ND and Carl of Lake Preston; a sister Mrs. R.L. Aney, Los Angeles, CA; other relatives and a host of friends. The remains were laid to rest in the Lake Preston City Cemetery.
