He was born on May 11, 1933 in Bear River City, Utah, a son of Lavaldon Cornelius "Val" and Mary Amelia Ellis Anderson. He graduated from Bear River High School in 1951 and enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed in Korea as a helicopter flight medic, he served for eight years and received a purple heart.
Big Jim married Carol Ann Richardson on May 9, 1959 in Roy, Utah. She preceded him in death on August 18, 1985.
He retired from Intermountain Indian School as Head of Security in 1984. Following retirement he drove school bus for Box Elder School District.
Big Jim enjoyed leather work, hunting, horses, and storytelling. He had a special love for his dog, Lady.
Surviving are three children, Deborah (Robert) Kendell, Taylorsville; Randall (Sheri) Anderson, Whitney, ID; Valerie (Brian) Jibson, Perry; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one brother, Robert (Rose) Anderson, Bear River City.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Brigham City Cemetery, 300 East 300 South, where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans of Box Elder County.
Family will greet friends on Tuesday from 12 Noon to 1:30 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, UT.
