John Porteous, 74, retired New York Central Railroad fireman, died this morning at his home in Florida Road, Mattydale, after a lingering illness. He was a member of I.O.O.F. Lodge 97; Salt Springs Lodge, 520, F.& A.M. & Fortune Lodge, 120, Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs.Ada Durling & Miss Olive Porteous; 1 brother, Walter Porteous of Baldwin, Mich.; 1 grandson & 2 great-grand- children. The Rev.James B.Knappenberger will conduct funeral services at the home at 10 am Friday. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
