David McClachrie was born about 1774 in Scotland. His parents have yet to be discovered. David married Elizabeth Donaldson before 1798, probably at Colvend, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland, and they had at least seven children: William; Andrew; Charles; Mary; Robert; John; Agnes.
