John Muir Loudon Clachrie was born about 1813 at Colvend, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland, a child of David McClachrie and Elizabeth Donaldson. A Master seaman; he married Jane Coates about 1835 at Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland and had seven children: David; William; Agnes; James; Mary; Margaret; John. His wife Jane, preceded him in death, February 3, 1878.

Scotland Statutory Death Register, 1855-1956, GROS 821/00 0193, Dumfries: John Muir Loudon Clachrie, age 82, sailor, widower of Jane Coates; died May 12, 1894 at 4:45 p.m. at 15 Wallace Street, Dumfries; parents: David Clachrie, laborer, deceased, and Elizabeth Clachrie ms Donaldson, deceased; cause of death: paralysis for eight days; certified by M. Ferguson, MB; informant: Mary Clachrie, daughter.
