Joseph H. Morgan ws born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, June 20, 1847 and departed this life in Chariton, Iowa, August 30, 1921, at the age of 74 years, 2 months, 11 days. He spent the early part of his life in Wayne County and the latter part of his life in Lucas County, Iowa.
Deceased was one of three children born to John and Francis Mintree Smith Morgan, one of whom died in 1891 and the other, Floyd Morgan of Los Angeles, California. Besides these he leaves six half brothers and sisters: Jas. Ruark of Carrol, Iowa, Issac Ruark of St. Joseph, MO., Geo. Ruark of Confidence and Ed Ruark of Elwood, Kans., and Mrs. Julia Hawk of Promise City, and Mrs. Belle Green of Confidence.
Well on to fifty years ago he was married to Mellisa Wolf to which union seven children were born, 5 girls and 2 boys. His wife and children have passed away one by one to the better world beyond. He leaves to mourn his loss the above mentioned brothers and sisters and three grand children. He has been a member of the M.E. Church for many years and leaves many friends and acquaintances.
The funeral services were held August 31, from the Baptist church in Confidence, conducted by Rev. R.W. Meeker of Promise City. Interment in the Confidence Cemetery.
