Oscar Arthur Lindauer (1872-1948) was a real estate agent and insurance agent with C. Howard Slater. (b. December 23, 1872; Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA - d. October 2, 1948; Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, USA)

Parents:
According to his death certificate his parents were: Charles Lindauer (1840-?) and Caroline Ritter (1846-?). Charles may be the same as Charles Frederick Lindauer I (1836-1921), but that isn't certain. Caroline was born in Paris, France. Ann Richardson Vineyard (1944- ) said on March 13, 2007: "My mother told me [his family] came over from Alsace-Lorraine. [His father] spoke German and [Caroline] spoke French and they fell in love." After the death of Caroline, Oscar was raised in the household of John Jacob Lindauer (1840-1888), a cigar maker, and Nellie X (1853-1887).

His siblings include: George Lindauer (1866-?) who may have moved to Bound Brook or Somerset, New Jersey according to the 1930 Census; Lottie Lindauer (1869-?) aka Charlotte Lindauer; and Lulu Lindauer (1871-?) who was born in February 1871 in New York.

Marriage:
Arthur married Jennie Louise Courter (1879-1963) aka Jean Louise Courter in June 17, 1903. She was from Newark, Essex County, New Jersey. June 16, 1903 in the Jersey Journal: "Mrs. Emma P. Courter of Barrow Street has sent out invitations for the marriage of her daughter, Jean Louise, to Mr. Oscar A. Lindauer. The wedding will take place Wednesday evening, June 17, at Grace Church (Van Vorst)."

Children:
They had the following children: John Howard Lindauer I (1905-1954) who worked as a radio engineer in 1930 and was later a television engineer for RCA; Florence Elizabeth Lindauer (1907-1967) who worked as a keypunch operator in a fire insurance company in 1930, and married Charles James Cull II (1903-1976); Natalie Jean Lindauer (1910-1996) who married Alfred Richardson (1901-1953) and lived in Cincinnati, Ohio and died in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; and Charles Frederick Lindauer II (1919-2006) who married Gloria X (1925- ) and later moved to Florida.

Jersey City:
Arthur appears in the 1880 US Census under the name "Oscar Lindauner" in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. His father was working as a cigar maker. Oscar Arthur Lindauer also appears in the 1900-1930 US Census living in Jersey City. In 1900 he was living at 211 Pacific Avenue in Jersey City with his sister Lulu who wasn't married. In 1910 Oscar was living at 262 Communipaw Avenue. In 1900 through 1930 Oscar was working in real estate. In 1916 he ran for the Senate of the State of New Jersey for the sixth ward of Jersey City.

Lafayette Church, Jersey City:
April 27, 1895 in the Jersey Journal: "Mr. C.H. Slater, who has been librarian in the Lafayette Church for ten years, has resigned from that office. Mr. Oscar Lindauer has been appointed in his place, with Mr. Harry Linderbough, Jr., as an assistant." Oscar Arthur Lindauer was General Secretary of the Men's Club of Lafayette Church in Jersey City, New Jersey by 1915.

Oscar Arthur Lindauer registered for the draft on September 12, 1918. He was working as a clerk at the C. Howard Slater real estate agency at 305 Pacific Avenue in Jersey City. He was living with his wife, Jean Louise Courter at 8 Park Street in Jersey City. He had gray eyes, black hair, and was slender and of medium build.

Arthur's real estate investments were worthless after the Stock Market Crash, and after 1930 he moved to Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio with his wife and possibly his children.

Death:
He died on October 2, 1948 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio from a coronary occlusion with arteriosclerosis.

Lindauer, 75, a former resident of Jersey City, who for many years conducted a real estate and insurance business on Pacific Avenue, died Saturday in Cincinnati, Ohio, after a long Illness. Surviving Mr. Lindauer are his wife, Jean L. Courter; two sons, John Howard, and Charles Frederick Lindauer; two daughter, Mrs. Charles Cull, Jr., and Mrs. Alfred Richardson and eight grand-children."

Funeral notice:
Cincinnati Enquirer on October 3, 1948, page 39, column 4: "Lindauer, Oscar A., beloved husband of Jean Courter Lindauer and beloved father of Mrs. Florence E. Cull, Mrs. Natalie Richardson, John H., and Charles F. Lindauer, Saturday October 2, 1948; residence 5818 Hamilton Avenue ..."

Burial:
He was buried on October 6, 1948 in Fairmount Cemetery at 620 Central Avenue in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey.
