Following an illness of several months Mrs. Agatha Schaad, daughter of John Daniel Mayer, and Anne Rapp Mayer, and widow of Jacob Schaad, died at her home in this village Monday morning at five-thirty o'clock. Mrs. Schaad was born in Wurtemburgh, Germany, coming to this country when nineteen years old, being in her eighty-fourth year at the time of her death. She came to this village soon after her arrival from her native land and has resided here constantly since. Mrs. Schaad was a woman who was ever ready and willing to help those about her in trouble and distress and during her long and useful life brought cheer to many a bedside and comfort and aid to those needing succor. She raised a large family, but was never so busy that she could not find time to respond to the call of her neighbors whose necessities demanded her attention and aid. Mrs. Schaad belonged to the old school of womankind, whose character and life are worthy of emulation. She was a member of the Third Lutheran church of this village, a devout Christian whose religion was exemplified in her every day contact with the world. The entire community mourns the loss sustained in her death. Surviving her are one daughter, Mrs. John J. Sleight, of this village and two sons, Henry, of this village, and Jacob, residing at Peekskill. Her funeral was held from her late home Thursday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock, Rev. Walter Miller, pastor of the church to which she belonged, having charge of the services. Interment was in the family plot in the Rhinebeck cemetery.
