DRESDEN - Mrs. Mildred Thompson Gatewood, 70, died Thursday, July 1, 1999 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, East in Memphis.

Services were held 2 p.m. Sunday at Dresden First Baptist Church with Dr. Don McCulley and Rev. B. J. Ferguson officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery, Dresden with Bowlin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Danny Jones, Roger Tibbs, Lowe Finney, Dennis Moon, Don Cleek and Gerald Parham served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Gatewood was born in Weakley County, daughter of the late John William and Annie Highfull Thompson. She was a retired clerk and bookkeeper, a member of Dresden First Baptist Church where she was a 30 year choir member, 17 year church clerk, 20 year Sunday School Secretary and 12 year Training Union Director.

Survivors include her husband, Doyle M. Gatewood of Dresden, who she married on November 29, 1947; one daughter, Shirley Ann Kelley of Springville; one son, Walter Lee Gatewood of Water Valley, Kentucky; two sisters, Grace Sterling of Franklin and Ruth Jackson of Dresden; two brothers, Burnett Thompson of Dresden and Jack Thompson of McKenzie; three grandchildren, one step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents by four sisters, Mary Robertson, Lottie Buckley, Lucille McGeehee and Dorothy Patterson; and one brother, Basil Thompson.
