Funeral services for Mr. Thompson were held Thursday, September 8, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. B.J. Ferguson and Rev. Don McCulley officiated the services.
Mr. Thompson was the former owner and operator of Thompson's Grocery, as well as a member of First Baptist Church in Dresden. He was born November 7, 1914 in Martin to the late John Thompson and Annie Mae Highfill. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was also preceded in death by his wives, Eloise Thompson and Vivian Bowlin Thompson; and a stepson, Johnny Buie.
Mr. Thompson is survived by three daughters, Sue Dorband of Rotanda West, Florida, Judy Weatherly of Memphis, and Marsha Williams of Martin; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
