Carol Cobb Hamilton

At noon, November 24th, Eva Carolyn Cobb Hamilton passed away peacefully at her home after a long illness. She is survived by her son, D. Kirk Hamilton and his wife, Joyce A. Langenegger, of College Station, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends from around the world. Her husband, Dan K. Hamilton, passed away in 1984. She was born on July 6, 1923, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to William Battle Cobb and Eva Cahoon Cobb. She died in College Station, Texas.

She was a true Southern lady from Chapel Hill, NC, who charmed everyone she met. She graduated from Chapel Hill High School, St. Mary's College in Raleigh, and the University of North Carolina.

Carol lived a remarkably rich life, traveling with her exploration geologist husband to live in Kenya, France, Turkey, Libya, Nigeria, Indonesia, and the Philippines, as well as Connecticut, Mississippi, and Texas. Known for her graciousness, she was loved by everyone she met. After their retirement from the expatriate life, she returned to Chapel Hill, where she spent many years in the historic Collier Cobb house built by her grandfather. She was a member of the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Chapel Hill. Prior to her move to Texas, she was a member of the William C. Coker Garden Club and the Chapel Hill Bird Club, among other organizations. She spent the last three years in College Station, Texas, in a cottage next door to her son and daughter-in-law. She was passionate about birds, animals, and preservation of the magnificent and diverse natural world. She was generous and caring to a fault.

For the last month she was cared for by Hospice Brazos Valley and several loving caregivers. The family is especially grateful for the exceptional care she received from Joyce Brown, Ellen Captain, Tiffany Blake, Nadine Eaton, Keisha Brown, and Berta Vidal.

The graveside burial service will be at the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery at the corner of Raleigh Road and Country Club Lane, in Chapel Hill, NC, at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 4th. The Reverend Stephen Elkins-Williams will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Carol Cobb Hamilton to the Cobb Family Chapel, c/o Chapel of the Cross, 304 East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC, 27514-3624; Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 West 26th Street, Bryan, TX, 77803; or the North Carolina Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, 4705 University Drive, Suite 290, Durham, NC, 27707.
