William B. Cobb Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - William Battle Cobb Jr., 81, died Aug. 2, 2009, in Virginia Beach. Born in North Carolina, he was a graduate of The McCallie School and the University of North Carolina where he played basketball. William was a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also retired from Bob's Gun & Tackle Shop where he worked for years. He was an avid fisherman, as well as a freshwater fishing expert. William was a member of Chapel of The Cross, Chapel Hill, N.C. He is survived by sister, Carol Cobb Hamilton, College Station, Texas; three nieces, Elizabeth Murphy, Eva Craig Phillips, both of Raleigh, N.C., Martha G. Gracie, Virginia Beach; two nephews, Kirk Hamilton and Andy Phillips, both of Raleigh; and several cousins. A graveside service will be Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. in Belle Haven Cemetery, Belle Haven, Va., with the Rev. Robert Johnson presiding. Burial will be in the cemetery. Fox & James Funeral Home, Eastville, Va., is in charge.
