**** MY FATHER ****

Born near Barrie, Ontario, Flos Township. Dad came to Saskatchewan at an early age with his parents and settled at Brownlee and Lumsden before moving to Moose Jaw where he received his school education, graduating at Ross Collegiate. He played junior hockey with the Moose Jaw Monarchs in the early 1920's.

In the 1930's attended the University of Manitoba where he received his Masters Degree in Agriculture in 1939. He then took a position on staff at the University involving research work and helped in discovering Rust in Wheat.

Was a school teacher for a short period at Herbert, Saskatchewan and then worked with the Hudson Bay Company (Land Division) until 1953. Next year worked for one year with the John Deer Company at Calgary, before getting an offer with the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA) at Regina, Saskatchewan, as a land appraiser. One of his major projects was buying all the land for the Diefenbaker Dam in the 1960's. later was appointed the Chief of the Land Division when his close friend Mr. George Simpson retired. Dad retired in 1968.

From the time he retired he suffered three heart attacks and died on August 18, 1970 at the Regina General Hospital, in the attensive unit supervised by his own daughter Linda (Saucedo) Johnston.

JOHNSTON FUNERAL: was HELD - Funeral service for Charles L. Johnston of 4113 - 19th. Ave. was held Friday in Speers Funeral Chapel with Rev. A.W. Martin officating. Burial was in Riverside Memorial Park. - Born in Ontario, Mr. Johnston came to Saskatchewan at an early age, and was raised on a farm in the Brownlee district.

He received his high school education in Moose Jaw. He also attended normal school there, and graduated in agriculture from the University of Manitoba. He then took a position on the staff of the university where he was involved in research work.

He received his master degree in 1941 and worked with the Hudson Bay land department. - He joined the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration in 1954 as a land appraiser and later was appointed chief of the land division. He retired in 1968.

Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife, Marion, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Bob Blackwell of Ste. 1602, Rainbow Towers; a son Ron of Ste. 101 Tower Gardens; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Haskins of Kelowna, B.C., and Mrs. Viola Ingram of Moosomin.

BURIAL: funeral service was held at Speers Funeral home on Friday, August 21, 1970, with Rev. A.W. Martin of Lakeview United Church officiating.
