He was born Oct. 4, 1939, in Shelby County, the son of Glen Henry and Opal Dorothy Lee Baatz. He was raised in Shelbyville and was a 1957 graduate of Shelbyville High School. He married Patty Thomas in 1960. He retired in 1994 after 13 years as a police officer in Vevay. He was a former employee at Randall Textron in Vevay and Rising Sun Chair Factory in Rising Sun. He lived most of his life in Switzerland County. He was a member of Markland Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by three daughters: Corina Buchanan of Dupont, Debbie Davis of Hanover and Teresa Darling of East Enterprise; one son, Chris Baatz of Vevay; three sisters, Ramona Miller of Allensville, Reva Garrett of Shelbyville and Gloria McFadden of Moscow; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lloyd Baatz; and two sisters, Mary Etta Helton and Olive Green.
The funeral was at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery.
