Mr. Loyd Delmer Baatz, age 76, of Hanover, Indiana, formerly of Switzerland County and Shelby County, Indiana entered this life on October 30, 1934 in Switzerland County, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Glen Henry & Opal Dorothy Lee Baatz. He was raised in Switzerland County attending school there. He graduated later from the Arsenal Tech in Indianapolis in 1961. He was inducted into the United States Marines on January 22, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana, during the Korean War and rose to the rank of Corporal. Loyd was honorably discharged on January 21, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois, receiving the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

He was united in marriage on May 12, 1956 in St. Paul, Indiana to Janet Arlene Shoopman. This happy union was blessed with three sons and one daughter. Loyd & Janet resided in Shelby County, Indiana from 1950 to 1987and he was employed for thirty years with the Ford Motor Company as bolt maker operator. After retirement they moved back to Switzerland County residing near Center Square from 1987 to 2006 when they moved to Hanover to be near their children. Loyd was a former member of the East Enterprise United Methodist Church and after moving to Hanover became a member of the Hanover United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Switzerland Masonic Lodge No. 122 F. & A.M., past Worshipful Master of Shelby Masonic Lodge NO. 28 F. & A.M., Fairland Eastern Star Lodge and past Worthy Patron of Bennington Order of Eastern Star No. 407. Loyd enjoyed in his spare time hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking & being with his family. Loyd died Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 3:26 p.m. at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

Loyd will be missed by his loving wife of fifty five years: Janet Arlene Shoopman Baatz of Hanover, Indiana; his loving sons: Curtis Baatz & his wife, Debbie of Greenwood, Indiana, David Baatz & his wife, Linda of Shelbyville, Indiana, Scott Baatz & his wife, Rebecca of Hanover, Indiana; his loving daughter: Janet Lynn McIver of Hanover, Indiana; his loving brother: Robert "Bob" Baatz of Hanover, Indiana; his loving sisters: Reva Garrett & her husband, Bill of Shelbyville, Indiana, Ramona Miller of Allensville, Indiana, Gloria McFadden of Rushville, Indiana; his loving brother in law: Buddy Green of Mt. Sterling, Indiana; his aunts: Lauretta Borgman of Allensville, Indiana, Myrtle Hildebrand of Yukon, Arizona; his loving grandchildren: Roger, Loyd, Todd, Josh, Bryan, Sam, Ali, Jeremy, Terry, Melissa, Joey, Johnny & Janelle; 30 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

He was preceded in death by parents, Glen Henry & Opal Dorothy Lee Baatz; his sisters, Mary Etta DeBaun & Olive Green.
