OBITUARY FOR EDNA GENTRY

A joint funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. June 2, 1982, in the chapel of Flint Funeral Home for William and Edna Gentry, long-time former Prosser residents, who made their home at Rt. 1 Box 1265A in Benton City.

Mr. Gentry, 93, died May 28, 1982, in Prosser Memorial Hospital and his wife, Edna, 81, passed away May 30, 1982, at Kadlec Hospital in Richland.

Officiating for the service was the Rev. May Killingstad, of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sunnyside. Mrs. LaVerne Richman was the organist.

Bearing the caskets were grandsons of the couple, Ed Boob, Jim Gentry, Jeff Miland, Brent Petersen, Bud Schmidt and Walter Poe.

Concluding services and interment were June 2, 1982, at 2 p.m., in the Zillah Cemetery.

EDNA GENTRY

Edna Gentry was born May 8, 1901, to Martha and Richard Alsbury in Pawnee, Oklahoma. The family moved to Gilman City, Missouri, where she lived until she was 15 when the family moved to the Yakima Valley and settled in Zillah.

She was united in marriage in (Aug. 16)1919 (in Yakima, WA)to Peter Christian Petersen. To this union were born Margaret, Martin, Betty, Lyle, Phyllis and Christina. Mr. Petersen died in 1934 and she moved her family to Prosser settling on a small farm on the North River Road.

In 1937 she was united in marriage to William A. Gentry and the couple had one daughter, Helen Marie.
Mrs. Gentry was a lifetime member of Buena Vista Home Economics Club, Royal Neighbors of Zillah and was baptized a Methodist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) on May 28, 1982, and two sons, Martin A. Petersen and Lyle A. Petersen, and one brother, Orrin Alsbury.

Mr. and Mrs. Gentry are survived by a son, Ray Gentry of Sacramento; daughters, Gladys Jackson, Mrs. Floyd (Margaret) Hazzard of Sunnyside; Mrs. Wayne (Betty) Miland of Wapato, a daughter-in-law, Clara Petersen, Prosser, Mrs. Ray (Phyllis) Boob of East Wenatchee; Mrs. Don (Chris) Parks of Sand Springs, Okla., and Mrs. Joe (Helen) Snyder of Benton City; 32 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

The family suggests that those who wish may make contributions to the American Heart Association.
