Letha Maude Spears

Letha Maude Spears, 97, Topeka, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 1991, at a Topeka nursing home.
She was born July 16, 1894, at La Harpe, the daughter of Michael C. and Maggie Meek Stateler.
Mrs. Spears lived 39 years in Topeka before she moved to Merriam in 1986 to be with a daughter. She returned to Topeka in April 1990.

She married Robert E. Yocum on Jan. 21, 1912, at Iola. He died May 13, 1944. She married De Armond Spears on Feb. 14, 1947. He died March 20, 1986. A son, Robert E. Yocum Jr., died in infancy.

Survivors include six daughters, Wilma McBee and Carol Yocum, both of Topeka; Alta Frantz, Cherokee Village, Ark.; Verl Childress, Wichita; Farel Nicholas, Lake san Marcos, Calif.; and Dianna Rinner, Merriam; three sisters, Juanita Smith, Summerville, S.C., and Eva Cloud and Lolita Odor, both of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Spears will lie in state after noon today at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
