Funeral services were conducted in Grace Lutheran church, Trenton, on Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Robert J. Leege officiating. The hymns, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Asleep in Jesus," were sung by Ladonna Kalthoff, Sharon Burger, William Potthoff, and Lorenz Melchert, accompanied by Lavilla Kalthoff.
Pallbearers were Albert Alberts, John T. Groothuis, John J. Groothis, Raymond Stratman, John E. Stratman, and Irvin Stratman. Burial was in the Culbertson Cemetery with the Roose Funeral Home of Trenton in charge of arrangements.

Albert Groothuis Sr. was born on March 30, 1879 to Andrew and Ella Groothuis in Grossfehn, Ost Friesland, Germany and died at his home southwest of Culbertson, Nebraska on April 18, 1954.
In 1892 he came with his parents to America where the family settled in Franklin County, Nebraska.
He was united in marriage with Tena Stratman on October 16, 1903. One son, Andrew A., was born to this union.
In 1907 Mr. Groothuis moved with his family to the Culbertson community and resided in the South Riverside neighborhood until the time of his death.
The deceased was a life-long member of the Lutheran church. He was baptized April 12, 1879 and was confirmed on Palm Sunday, March 18, 1894.
Two brothers, Tom Sr. and John and one sister, Mrs. Harman Alberts Sr. preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Tena, and his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew A. Groothuis of Trenton, besides many other relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances.
