David was the son of Henry and Nancy Miller Chubb. During the Civil War, he served with Co. G, 200th Pennsylvania Infantry. He married Susan Schaffner and the couple had 7 children.

Patriot newspaper, July 11, 1921:
David W. Chubb, Civil War veteran, died Friday at his home in Armstrong Valley, Halifax Township, aged 76 years. He was a member of the Reformed Church and the Grand Army of the Republic. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Catherine, Howard, John and Jerry and Mrs Mary Motten, of Halifax. Funeral services will be held at the home tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. Burial will be in Fetterhoff cemetery.
