She was born in Scott Haven, Pa., on Dec. 2, 1917, daughter of the late James and Ada Hughes Higby.
She was a graduate of Sewickley Township High School and California State Teachers College.
She spent her years of teaching in the Country Schools of Scott Haven and Cowansburg, Pa.
May had beautiful handwriting and was offered a teaching position to travel to local schools and teach the Peterson Handwriting Method, but she preferred to stay at the one-room schoolhouse where she taught over fifty pupils, grades one through six.
During World War II, she contributed to the war effort by working at the Christy Park Works.
She was a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Monessen for many years.
In 1949 she married Thomas Rasco, who died in August 1997.
