James C. Henderson, 87, Civil war veteran and retired farmer of this city, died Wednesday morning [Oct. 3, 1934] at 10:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Myers, of complications following a stroke of paralysis suffered five days ago.
A life-long resident of Tippecanoe County, he was born May 22, 1847, in Lafayette and was a son of James and Nancy (Coon) Henderson, natives of Pennsylvania. On Sept. 14, 1882, he was married to Lydia E. Koon, and for a number of years was engaged in farming near Number Ten. Retiring ten years ago, he came to Lafayette to live.
During the Civil War, Mr. Henderson served with Company I, One Hundred and Twenty-Eighth Regiment, Indiana Infantry. Besides the daughter with whom he lived, he leaves another daughter, Mrs. Ernest Carr of this city; and a sister, Mrs. James Fay of Lafayette, route 10.
The body was removed to the Bradshaw funeral home and will be taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ernest Carr, 317 Perrin avenue, where friends may call afternoon Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted from the Carr residence
Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with the Rev. T.F. Williams, D.D. of Trinity M.E. church, officiating; internment at Rest Haven Memorial Park, where the
American Legion will furnish a firing squad.
