Margaret was a daughter of Joshua Fowler (1758-1839) and Amelia Finley (1767-1839). She was born in Lexington, Kentuckey, married in about 1816, and lived most of her life in Ohio.

She gave birth to eleven children (according to a historical article written in 1879).

Sometime in the 1860s, the family moved to Tazewell, Illinois.
