Evelyn Pearl Johnston, 87, of North Creek passed away at 4:49 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2012 surrounded by her family and her special caregiver, Vicki Lopez, in the home she resided in for 63 years. She was born on February 18, 1925 in Oakwood to the late Albert and Pearl (Heilshorn) Adams. On December 10, 1949 she married Lloyd Johnston, who passed away July 22, 1985. To this union was born five daughters and one son; Arlene Johnston of North Creek, Laura (Michael) Miller of Wapakoneta, Rachel (Brian) Schroeder of Columbus Grove, Douglas (Tammy) Johnston of Ayersville, Susan Johnston of North Creek, and Sarah (Robert) Hermiller of Ottawa. Evelyn was also blessed with ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters: Norma Erford of Defiance and Margaret Elliott of Charloe and one brother: Larry (Carol) Adams of Oakwood. Six siblings preceded her in death: Gayle Foss, Floella Grimes Bodenbender, Gerald Adams, Earl Adams, Rachel Adams, and Richard Adams.
Evelyn was an avid traveler, visiting every state in the USA. She thoroughly enjoyed cruises; her favorite being the Ohio State Buckeye Cruise. She also loved rooting for her favorite sport teams: Detroit Pistons, Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and any team that her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren were on. Family was a very important part of Evelyn's life. She especially loved the quality family time spent on Marble Lake, where she owned a cottage for many years.
Evelyn was a 1942 graduate of Oakwood High School. She was a member of the North Creek United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, VFW Auxiliary of New Bavaria, International Brotherhood of Electric Workers, and a volunteer for the Putnam County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She worked at All Star in Defiance and retired from Philips in Ottawa.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Rev. Lynda Lockwood and Vicki Lopez officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental.
