Former Oakwood resident Floella G. Grimes Bodenbender, age 89, died at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Brookview Healthcare Center, Defiance.
She was born March 10, 1919 in Oakwood, the daughter of Albert and Pearl (Heilshorn) Adams. On June 1, 1936 she married Kenneth Ward Grimes, who died Oct. 31, 1974. On Sept. 4, 1987, she married Melford Bodenbender, who died Jan. 10, 1995.
She farmed, had worked at Roberts Manufacturing, Dresser Industries and Pauline's Restaurant of Oakwood, and was a bus driver for Quadco. She was a member of Twin Oaks United Methodist Church in Oakwood, taught Sunday School for many years at Centenary United Methodist Church of Oakwood, and volunteered at the Oakwood Library.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth A. (Alison) Grimes of Tigard, Ore.; four daughters, Grace L. Mangas and Kathryn J. (Ken) Ludwig, both of Defiance, Alberta (Bill) Merritt of Oakwood, and Karen Y. (Ed) Sanders of Antelope, Calif.; a brother Larry Adams of Oakwood; three sisters, Evelyn Johnston of Continental, and Norma Erford and Margaret Elliott, both of Oakwood; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-stepgrandchildren and great-great-stepgrandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Earl Adams; a sister, Gayle Foss; twin brother and sister in infancy, Richard and Rachel Adams; and a granddaughter, Faith Grimes.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 31 at Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Oakwood with the Rev. Dr. James Ernst officiating. Burial was in Sherman Cemetery, Oakwood.
