Arlen V. Burton, 81 years of age, of Louisa, Kentucky, departed this life and entered into eternal peace on October 15th, 2012 at the J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center near his home in Louisa.

Arlen was born in Delmer, Kentucky on May 28th, 1931, son of the late Oscar Clayton Burton and Flonnie Smith Burton.

Arlen was a graduate of Nancy High School. After graduation he joined the United States Army to serve in the Korean Conflict to serve his country as a medical aidman and attained the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return to the United States he enrolled and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. He worked for the USDA Soil Conservation as a District Conservationist and retired with over 25 years of service. He was a member of the Lawrence County Board of Supervisors with the Lawrence County Conservation District with 25 years of service, where he served as chairman for the past 5 years. Member of Lawrence County Farm Bureau for over 26 years where he served as Vice-chair for the past year. He was a volunteer at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course. A former employee of the Lawrence County Board of Education where he was a substitute teacher and bus driver. He was a member of American Legion in Kenova, West Virginia. He was a member of the Louisa United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and had a love of the outdoors.

Arlen was survived by two daughters, Sherry Burton Barker (and her husband, William) and Sonya Burton Wedge (and her husband, Ronald); five grandchildren, Sarah Barker, Hayley Barker, Will Barker, Mitchell Wedge, and Madison Wedge; four sisters, Jewel (and the late Gene) Bramel, Montie (and the late Rev. Leon ) Wesley, Lillian (and Tom) Morrow, and Christine (and Ben) Shadoan; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Burton, who departed this life on August 20th, 1993 and Flonnie Burton, who departed this life on May 21st, 1985; three brothers, Marlon Burton, Glen Burton, and Bernard Burton; and a former wife, Barbara Norton Cruickshank.

Visitations were held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18th, 2012 in the Chapel of the Young Funeral Home in Louisa, Kentucky.

Graveside service with military honors were conducted on Friday, October 19th, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky, by the American Legion Post No#38 where he was laid to rest.
