Montie Wesley was born July 23, 1925 in Pulaski County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Flonnie Burton.
Montie and Leon Wesley had been married for 12 years and had two children when Leon entered the ministry at age 35. Montie devoted full time to being a mother and minister’s wife and enjoyed the challenges of her new life.
Montie took great pride in keeping the parsonage ready for any type of meeting or visit from church members. She always left the parsonage in better condition than when they first moved in.
Leon retired from the Kentucky Conference of the Methodist Church in June of 1989 and they moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida in 1995. Leon died May 5, 1997 and Montie continued to live in Fort Walton Beach for several years after.
In June of 2002, she moved to Louisville, Kentucky and bought a new patio home at the Village of Wesley Manor. She became very active volunteering her talents in many ways at Wesley Manor.
She was a talented artist, seamstress and interior decorator. She was the “artist in residence” in the years spent at Wesley Manor and contributed much of her work through their Christmas cards, note cards, and paintings to be auctioned off to raise money for Wesley Manor.
Montie passed away on July 10, 2016 at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville at age 90. She is survived by her son, Stephen Burton Wesley and his wife, Kun “Wanna” Wesley, her daughter, Greta Wesley, one grandson, Thomas Jayson Wesley, one great granddaughter, Isobel Wesley, and three sisters, Jewell Brammel, Lillian Marrow (Tom), and Christine Shadoan (Ben).
Burial will be at Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, beside her husband, Leon.
Visitation will be at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway Louisville, KY on Thursday July 14, 2016 from 11:00am until 6:00 pm with the funeral service being held at the funeral home at 6:00 pm, following the visitation.
